New applications to assist with operational stress injuries
Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), in partnership with mental health organizations, has released two mobile applications to assist individuals and their families in dealing with an operational stress injury (OSI).
The first application released in May 2013 was the PTSD Coach Canada, developed by Veterans Affairs Canada, in partnership with the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Mental Health Association. PTSD Coach Canada is an informational and self-care tool that can provide assistance to individuals with the management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. It has been adapted from PTSD Coach, thanks to the assistance of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and United States Department of Defense.
The second application, released in June 2013 by VAC in partnership with the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, is called OSI Connect. It provides information and assistance for people living with PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and other types of OSIs. It also provides help through the OSI Clinic Network across Canada by helping users access the clinics, and can then be used to support them during treatment.
The release of these two applications highlights the continued progress by VAC in providing modern and relevant tools for members and their families.
Both PTSD Coach Canada and OSI Connect are free and available in English and French from iTunes and Android application stores. OSI Connect is also available on Blackberry.
PTSD Coach Canada and OSI Connect are not intended to replace needed professional care.
